December newsletter
Hello everyone,
It’s a very busy month, but I wanted to send a quick update — it’s been too long!
A lot has been happening on the technology front, and these upgrades are already making a big difference to the quality of coaching and training sessions:
1. A.I. Body Mapping
TrackMan already gives us ball flight, clubhead data, and video (front view and down-the-line). Now, with A.I. body tracking, we can also monitor your upper and lower body centre of mass, hand path, and head movement.
The big benefit? When you work on a new movement, you get instant feedback on how your body actually responds to drills and coaching.
This means practice becomes far more productive and targeted — quality over quantity.
2. Map My Bag
TrackMan’s “Map My Bag” feature provides data-driven yardages for every club.
It shows:
- True carry and total distances
- Gapping issues (overlaps or large gaps)
- Dispersion patterns
- Confidence-building data for better course management
Understanding this information leads to fewer mistakes and lower scores.
3. Club Lie Angles
Do your clubs actually fit you?
The best way to know is to measure them.
At impact, the goal is a square face and the sole flat on the ground (dynamic lie). Swing plane (VSP) also affects this.
- If the toe hits first → the face opens → shots go right (RH golfer).
- If the heel hits first → the face closes → shots go left.
Most clubs can be adjusted ±2 degrees depending on the metal.
It’s an easy way to optimise your consistency.
4. Everyone Has a Shot Shape
In nine years using TrackMan and analysing thousands of shots, I’ve never seen someone hit a perfectly neutral 0.0° path and 0.0° face. Everyone has tendencies.
Working to neutralise your pattern helps reduce variation and build consistency.
Examples:
- If you slice: work on “closers” — stronger right-hand grip, slightly closed stance, more lateral shift, etc.
- If you tend to pull left: add “openers” — weaker right-hand grip, more trail elbow flex, more centred spine.
Small changes make a big difference.
5. Golf Is Variable
Golf is never the same two days in a row because:
- You feel different, and
- The course is different.
With TrackMan Virtual Golf, we can simulate pressure and variability:
Shots over water, wind off the left, out-of-bounds right — all the situations that challenge you on the course.
Training these scenarios helps bridge the gap between practice and real performance.
Courses available include Turnberry, Lahinch, St Andrews, and the DP World Tour closing course in Dubai.
As the winter rolls in, it’s vital to keep your golf going — even when it’s cold or unappealing.
Remember:
“If you don’t want to work, you won’t be able to work when you do want to work.”
Stay consistent this winter so you’re ready to hit the ground running in the spring.
Seasons greetings
Kurt
